Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as “the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods.” 1 in 5 individuals (20.8%) in Socorro County are food-insecure. Food insecurity can negatively impact the health and well-being of individuals, households, and communities.

Food Assistance Programs

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Provides financial assistance to eligible New Mexicans with low income and limited resources to purchase food products. Learn more about the SNAP program, check eligibility guidelines, and apply online at www.yes.state.nm.us

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and community connections for eligible low-income pregnant, postpartum, and nursing women, infants, and young children. Learn more about the WIC program, check eligibility guidelines, and apply online at www.nmwic.org

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)
